Revisions and Updates for GT Standards

The Arkansas Department of Education Commissioner’s Memo (LS-09-047) regarding the proposed revisions and updates for the GT Standards is now on line. The memo has information on the public hearing and the proposed revised/updated document is attached to the memo.

A public hearing will be held on July 7, 2009, at 2:00 p.m. at Four Capitol Mall, Auditorium, Little Rock, AR 72201. The public comment period will run June 15-July 20, 2009. Written comments should be mailed to the Office of Gifted and Talented, at Four Capitol Mall, Room 203-B, Little Rock, AR 72201.

Unprecedented History Day win

TheCabin.net ·· Not just another assignment Conway students celebrate unprecedented History Day win 06/24/09: "When a group of girls at Conway High School East began brainstorming their History Day projects, they knew they wanted more than classroom credit.
This was proven at the national level of the History Day competition, when two separate teams reached an unprecedented height they were both ranked second in the nation."

National History Day

Here is a quick report from a correspondent who is "in the know" on National History Day.

National History Day went very well for Conway! We had four entries in the National Finals and we came away with two 2nd place, one 4th place and one 12th place in the nation!

America's Top Public High Schools

America's Top Public High Schools Newsweek Best High Schools Newsweek.com: "Public schools are ranked according to a ratio devised by Jay Mathews: the number of Advanced Placement, Intl. Baccalaureate and/or Cambridge tests taken by all students at a school in 2008 divided by the number of graduating seniors. All of the schools on the list have an index of at least 1.000; they are in the top 6 percent of public schools measured this way."

Ruth Doyle student recognized by Duke TIP

Sweere just completed his fifth-grade year; however, his score on the ACT Explore test proves he could likely ace the eighth-grade at this point."
